CONSULTATION

The client may choose to discuss the project via email or by setting up an appointment and meeting in person.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

The creative process is started once the 50% deposit is received.

The client needs to provide the designer with all pertinent material required for the project.  This includes details about the design requirements and preferences, including elements such as copy, images to be used, and samples of work.

If the project is logo design, the client needs to fill out the logo design questionnaire at http://www.simplecreative.com/logoquestions.html

The designer then researches and brainstorms the ideas and begins to create the concepts.  The timeline varies depending on the creative requirements of the project and on the designer's current workload.  (Please see the Timeline entry below for more details.)

When ready, the concepts are emailed to the client for review.  Logo concepts are initially prepared in black only - no colour.  The client chooses one of the concepts/designs and provides feedback on it.  The design is then refined to client specifications and in the case of a logo, colour is added.  The artwork is emailed to the client for final review.  The last round involves tweaking technical details for digital or print output.

Once payment of the remaining balance is received, the final artwork is emailed to the client in requested formats and the copyright then belongs to the client.  Original Adobe Illustrator vector artwork remains with the designer.

TURNAROUND TIME

Turnaround time depends on the extent of the client's project and the designer's current workload.  The designer does their best to meet client demands, but projects often take longer than estimated and specific day deadlines cannot be guaranteed on regular projects.  Project  time frame is also dependent on how soon the client provides the necessary information, content and/or files, as well as feedback on work in progress.

If the client requires a rush job with a tight deadline, it can be arranged for an additional charge of 50%.  If the deadline is crazy, the fees double.

Average turnaround for:
Logo Design - 2 to 4 weeks
Business Card Design - 1 to 2 weeks
Print Materials - 2 or more weeks
Website design - 2 or more weeks

ARTWORK FILES

Files are usually saved in these formats:  Press Quality PDF, EPS, TIFF, PNG, JPG

The copyright of a completed and fully paid for project belongs to the client, however, the original Illustrator or Photoshop artwork remains property of SimpleCreative.  It may be provided to the client upon special arrangement.

All files are usually emailed or uploaded to the web.

OWNERSHIP & COPYRIGHT

Upon receipt of the full payment for the project, the copyright of the artwork and/or website belongs to the client.

PAYMENT

Cheques are preferred.  Cash is accepted.  Clients may also make a deposit at any Vancity branch.

For Credit Card payments add 2.9%.   Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Bank, PayPal

REFUND POLICY

The deposit would be refundable only if work on the project has not commenced.  There are no refunds on projects.

What if the Client Doesn't Like any of the Designs?

A designer is usually chosen based on impressions, referrals, portfolio and pricing.  Pricing is commonly reflective of the level of service provided.  If the client does not like the artwork created within the set price scale, further artwork can be created for additional hourly fees.

In the worst case scenario, a project may be abandoned by either the client or the designer and unfortunately loss would then occur on both sides.

Just as the client can fire the designer, the designer may fire the client.  Hopefully that won't have to happen.

Project Cancellation

In the event of a cancellation or any client delay of more than 30 days,  the balance is due on all work created to date.  If the balance owing is not sumitted within 14 days, all work created thus far remains property of SimpleCreative and may not be used by the client.  If the client wishes to recommence the project, the project must be paid for in advance.

Digital and Offset Printing Compared

DIGITAL PRINTING  - Like your home or office printer but much higher quality. Ideal for smaller quantities.  Quick Proofing.  Quick turnaround.  Less expensive.  Excellent colour output.  Full colour printed on white stock.

OFFSET PRINTING  - Traditional printing presses.  Ideal for larger runs over 1000.  Longer production time.  More expensive than digital.  Cost for proofing.  Files require more complicated preparation.  Separate run for each colour or process.  Full colour consists of 4 inks - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and K Black.  Custom PANTONE ink colours available.  Variety of papers and special finishes such as foil and embossing available.
